The requirement for affordable housing has often left developers scratching their heads but if you're developing a prestige spot in Central London it must be hard to satisfy. Pity the poor developer with this conundrum! I suppose we can just have more of this in our patch instead.
Sugar Quay Holdings is intending to build 165 luxury homes on the former Tate & Lyle office site. The City of London council, however, has demanded a payment of £15m in lieu of including any affordable housing in the development, which Sugar Quay argued was financially unviable, requesting to pay £11.2m instead. This appeal has now been dismissed by the planning inspector.
