The age old problem of bad tenants and bad landlords. We've all heard of stories of Scrooge like Landlords who take their Tenants for a ride and of appalling Tenants who leave properties in a real mess. I myself had a house that I rented out and after less then 6 months it was unrecognisable. The solution is not immediately obvious but old fashioned attitudes and an inflexible legal framework do not make matters any better. Looking at the comments attached to this article a complete re-think may be long overdue. However beware blindly following the CAB viewpoint. There are as many bad tenants out there as bad landlords and mabybe realising this is the first step needed for reform.

Nearly eight in ten families in such homes have experienced problems with the property, including broken heating and rodent infestations, the study by Citizens Advice found. Families make up almost 40 per cent of privately renting households but almost half say they would like longer tenancies to feel more secure. Two thirds of these families — almost 1.2 million households — have tenancies of six months or less.
